On Friday 28th September, alongside thousands of other companies and organisations across the country (and indeed worldwide), Hudson Sandler took part in Macmillan Cancer Support’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. Macmillan Cancer Support is one of the largest British charities providing specialist health care, information and financial support to people affected by cancer.
In the days leading up to the event, the office had been buzzing with conversations about who would be baking what. Would a savoury option acceptable? Would we see many ‘soggy bottoms’? And who would be crowned star baker?
When Friday arrived, the response was overwhelming. The effort that went into baking and contributing across our team was incredible. It’s safe to say that we have definitely found some hidden talents.
It was great to meet some of our neighbours who came along for a cake, a cup of coffee and a chat. We also had several clients drop in throughout the day. Arguably, there’s no better way to network than over a slice of Victoria Sponge!
Our guests shared their stories about how they, or their family and friends, had been personally affected by cancer. This enabled people to open up about their experiences, talk to others that also knew the pain cancer can cause to families and friends, and perhaps even provide some comfort to those in need.
Although baking may not be easy for some, events like this can add such value to the working environment as it brings people away from their desks to spend time with each other. They help encourage people to discuss important aspects of their lives that aren’t related to work. Indicators suggest that many of us spend up to 70% of our waking day in a working environment, so making Hudson Sandler feel like a community – not just an office – has always been such an important priority for our team. Events like Friday’s are a great example of this.
